Lack of Students Causes Indian Professor to Return Rs24 Lakh Salary

An Indian college professor surprised everyone by returning Rs24 lakh of his salary to the government.

The assistant professor at a government university in the Indian state of Bihar's Muzaffarpur has returned Rs24 lakh to the government after a disappointing no-show.

Assistant Professor Dr. Lalan Kumar returned his two-year and nine-month salary of about Rs2.4 million to the university administration, Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University, in one go. He said that not a single student came to study with him during this entire period so there was no justification for taking salary. Professor Kumar teaches Hindi at the college.

When the university administration refused to withdraw his salary, Mr. Kumar threatened to quit his job, after which the administration had no choice but to withdraw his salary.
