KPK Makes Quran Studies Compulsory for Classes 9 - 12

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has made the study of the Holy Quran compulsory from ninth to twelfth grade.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's government has issued an order making the study of the Quran a requirement for all students in grades nine to twelve. This is in response to the Peshawar High Court's decision.

In 2023, 75 marks will be added to the matric, FA, and FSC exams, making the total marks of the matric and inter exams 1100 to 1225.

Minorities were also required to take an ethics course. In class IX and XII, it will be compulsory for children belonging to minorities. With the addition of Study Quran, the number of compulsory papers has increased to five.

A 75-mark paper has also been requested from the Directorate of Education for inclusion in the matriculation and entrance examinations in 2023. Furthermore, the Education Department sent recommendations to colleges for starting Quran classes and has ordered the Higher Education Department to implement the decision.

Throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Quran is taught from primary till the eighth grade. An appeal was filed in the Peshawar High Court requesting that it be taught as a compulsory subject and that an examination be conducted as well.
