‘‘Incompetent Engineers will be suspended” orders Education Minister
Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah on Wednesday ordered Education Secretary Akbar Leghari and Secretary College Education Khalid Haider Shah to replace incompetent and sluggish engineers with qualified and capable ones, expressing his concern over the slow pace of work on educational development projects.
Under the chairmanship of the education minister, a high-level meeting was conducted to examine educational development projects, with all of the engineers involved from across the province as well as other officials in attendance.
While briefing the minister on the projects, Additional Secretary Works Abdul Qadeer Ansari said Rs. 14 billion had been kept for educational development projects for the current fiscal year, with Rs. 3.5 billion remaining from the previous fiscal year's budget.
He stated that they have to work on a total of 303 programmes, with 117 initiatives now in progress and the remaining 186 schemes yet to be started. Most of the cash had been spent in Sindh's districts to release the funds, and several districts were experiencing a scarcity of technical and non-technical workers.
According to Ansari, 95 projects were supposed to be completed by June 2022, but most of them are expected to be left unfinished due to a variety of factors. He also claimed that engineers in various districts, including Jamshoro, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, and Thatta, were performing poorly.
He conveyed his displeasure and chastised the appropriate engineers for the projects' poor progress. He requested that the secretary of education produce a full report on incompetent engineers, as well as a list of open engineer positions across the province claiming "Incompetence and sluggishness will not be tolerated."
