Extreme heat wave: Order to close primary classes in educational institutions

Extreme heat and In view of the threat of severe heatwave, an order was issued to close primary classes in public and private educational institutions in Islamabad and to reduce the duration of classes above holidays.

According to Express News, in the wake of the heatwave in Islamabad, the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PERA) has issued orders to all public and private educational institutions to close all classes I to V. At the same time, the duration of all classes above the holiday has been increased from 8 am to 11 am.

All the schools have been informed through notification which has been directed to be fully implemented. Area Education Officers are required to fully implement the advisory to educational institutions. On the other hand, private educational institutions have opposed the closure of primary classes.

Private educational institutions in Islamabad have opposed the closure of schools. Malik Abrar Hussain, president of the All Pakistan Private Schools and Colleges Association, has said that the government's decision to close educational institutions up to the fifth grade is unworkable.

He said that the deteriorating education sector would be further devastated by the government's decision and the government should reconsider this decision.
