Edtech startup Kodland to expand its online coding school with $9 million funding

Edtech startup Kodland started offering in-person courses for children to study digital skills such as computer programming in 2018, in London. It later shifted to online learning in early 2020. Kodland offers online courses for children aged 6 to 17 in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Canada, the CIS Region, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Argentina, with each target region receiving exclusive specialized content. It claims that 16,000 pupils have enrolled in the paid course so far.

The courses emphasize group and project-based learning, with an emphasis on teaching youngsters digital skills such as coding, website development, game design, animation, and video editing in an environment that is structured to be more entertaining and participatory than typical classroom sessions. Although the online learning offered by Kodland's platform is not self-serve, it is directed by teachers. According to Kodland, it has roughly 1,000 teachers on its platform some of them are employed by the company, while others are freelancers, depending on the market.

Kodland recently closed $9 million funding in series A round. Its latest round of funding, which brings the company's total raised to $11 million, will be used to expand its market, with courses in eight other languages planned over the next two years. It also claims to be investing in product development.

Redseed Ventures led the investment, which also included Baring Vostok, Kismet, Flyer One Ventures, and Alexander Nevinsky, a partner at I2BF in New York.

The startup further said "We will expand further in English-speaking nations in 2022, in addition to the United Kingdom and Ireland; we will also enter Spanish-speaking countries and various countries in South-East Asia."
