The Hussain Ebrahim Jamal Research Institute of Chemistry, ICCBS, widely known as HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, is an advanced research center in Karachi, Sindh Province of Pakistan. In 1967, Prof. Salimuzzaman Siddiqui established a postgraduate institute of chemistry in the department of Chemistry, University of Karachi. Dr. Atta ur Rahman joined the Institute later on after obtaining Ph.D. from the Kings College, Cambridge University, later he accepted a 4-year assignment as a Fellow of Kings College, Cambridge University.
The main areas of research and development and training of students include natural product chemistry, protein chemistry, pharmacology, computational medicinal chemistry and plant biotechnology. The analytical, spectroscopic, computational and other facilities present in the institute are at par with any good Institution in the world. The Institute also houses an Industrial Analytical Center, which is providing analytical and consultancy services to over 350 industries in Pakistan annually.
